Sacramental

Council Member - Sister Maggie Reynolds

SACRAMENTAL   INITIATION.

Baptism.
Baptism is the initial Sacrament of Initiation into the Church community.
Baptisms are held on the first Sunday of the month, currently at 11am.
An information evening is held for parents of the children being baptized, on the Monday prior to the celebration.

Sacramental Program.
The Sacramental program is parish based and encompasses children in the parish from St. Anthony, Lincoln Street and Kent Road primary schools, or children who live in the parish but attend school outside the parish.

The Sacraments are usually celebrated as follows:
Yr.2   First Reconciliation
Yr.3   First Eucharist
Yr.6   Confirmation
Families are arranged in groups by a Coordinator who assists in preparing the program to be organized in a way that helps parents prepare the children for these Sacraments.  These groups are held in the Parish Centre over 5 – 6 weeks prior to the celebration and the Sacraments are celebrated as a parish celebration.

R.C.I.A. – Catechumenate.
This is the process whereby Adults enquiring about the Catholic Faith are accompanied.  A team of committed parishioners meet weekly from August – December and through Lent to Easter, walking with Enquirers to help them develop their faith and relationship with God.  Usually Adults are welcomed into the Church in a ritual at the beginning of Lent and proceed with special Rites and Rituals through Lent, acuminating in full initiation of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

SACRAMENTAL   LITURGICAL   CELEBRATIONS.

Marriage.
This is arranged with the couples concerned, by contacting the Parish Priest.

Anointing of the Sick.
This takes place as a parish community twice a year at a Sunday Eucharist for parishioners wanting the sacrament.
Anointing of the sick also takes place at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home at arranged times throughout the year.
Parishioners at Shalom Nursing Home and Southern Cross Homes are anointed at such times as needed.
Parishioners who are sick or in hospital are anointed on request.

Reconciliation.
Individual Reconciliation is held on the first Saturday of the month at 5pm.  Anyone unable to attend this who wishes to receive Reconciliation, should contact the Parish Priest and make an appointment to see him.
Rite 2 Reconciliation is held prior to Easter and Christmas and is celebrated as a community celebration.
