Education

Council Member - Marie Louise McClennan

St. Anthony’s Primary School.
St. Anthony’s Primary School is a parish school for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6.  The aim of the school is to create an environment where education is permeated by a Christian spirit and the children are helped to develop to their fullest potential, while being guided towards a total balanced formation of the whole person.
The school motto is “Let your light shine”.  Therefore, the school seeks to foster among pupils, teachers and all whose lives they touch, a genuine witness of Christian community.

Catechists.
The Catechists provide religious education to Catholic children in two schools – Lincoln Street and Kent Road.  The number of children involved varies between 100-13-.  We are currently using the “Christ our Light” curriculum, which is put out by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine who also hold accreditation programs and various workshops for Catechists.  There is a Catechist Co-ordinator at each school.

Adult Education.
Adult education is addressed in various ways.
There is a discussion group, which meets weekly to critique and discuss various books, tapes, articles etc.
There are Scripture study groups, which meet weekly to study and discuss various aspects of the Bible.
There is a Library, which encompasses books on Theology, Spirituality, Devotion, Saints, Church Teaching etc.
We have a bi-monthly publication called “Food for Thought” on various issues of interest, for people to read, reflect on and discuss.
