Receiving the New Roman Missal

We have begun to use the new translation of the Roman Missal

We have begun our preparation to receive the new translation of the Roman Missal with a series of instructions on understanding the Eucharist.

In the first of our instructions, we focused on the Presence of Christ within the Eucharist, as set out in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy from Vatican II:

  1. Christ present in the Community gathered
  2. Christ present in the Word proclaimed
  3. Christ present in the Body and Blood Consecrated
  4. Christ present in the Priest presiding

In our second week, we examined the fact that, as Catholics, we are part of a tradition that has been handed down from the ages. The Eucharist is our participation in the death and Resurrection of Christ. It is a communal celebration of the Cross and Resurrection that we are called to and so the focus when we come to Mass is on the Communal experience, not on personal prayer or devotion.

In our third week our focus was on the interplay of speech, silence and gesture in the Liturgy and the recovering of the rhythm that this intertpaly bring to the Eucharist.
