From the Parish Priest
St Anthony's has always been a parish with a strong sense of community. The people of the parish generously take responsibility for the welfare of their community and are willing participants in its support. While valuing the essentials of our Catholic Tradition, we have also been a parish that has been forward looking, embracing the paradigm shifts in attitudes encouraged by the Second Vatican Council. We continually endeavour to deepen our faith, develop our understanding of Church, serve the community, and dialogue with a changing society. |

The twentieth and twenty first centuries have brought a communications revolution that is having profoundeffects in our world. Not only can we transmit voice and text information around the world almost instantaneously, but photos, sketches, videos, music and other forms of data are sent just as easily and rapidly using a variety of digital and analogue technologies. A huge number of people now have the capacity to hear, to view, and even to publish, a wide range of opinions and material via the Internet. It is my belief that the Church should, as part of its mission of Evangelisation in the present time and society, take advantage of this technology. It is in this context that I welcome the launching of a website for St Anthony's Parish. For some time, this website has been in the process of construction, with the groundwork and basic material being developed by a parishioner. The site has now been revised and updated by another parishioner who has also undertaken its maintenance. The parish is grateful to those who have contributed their time and energy to setting up this site for the benefit of us all. It is worth remembering that websites are by nature flexible, so we can expect to see additions and developments in the site as time goes on ! I hope this site will not only provide a service to the local parish community, but will also become an additional vehicle for spreading the message of the Gospel to a wide range of visitors.
