...an Invitation

Our Sacramental Preparation Program for children is a parish-based one that aims to involve not only the child but also their parents, family and the whole Parish Community. We understand that “Parents are the first teachers of faith for their children”, and therefore are crucial to the faith development of their child. We challenge them to be role models in the practice of the faith to their child. Similarly, the Parish Community is the place in which the children will be invited to worship and so, the participation of the people of the Parish is essential in the child’s growth in faith.

The duration of the programs for the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation is approximately six weeks, and begins with a Formation Evening for parents only. Lessons are then held each week in the Parish Centre for children with a parent to attend.  Although the lessons are led by Madeleine, our Pastoral Associate, involvement by parents is actively encouraged, both at the lesson, and in work to be completed during the week (i.e. in workbooks or practical tasks).

The candidates are presented to the parish community at a weekend Mass at the beginning of the program, where the child and their family commits themselves to preparing for the Sacraments, and during each week of the program, when they minister to the Parish Community. At the conclusion of the six-week program, a practice for the particular Sacrament is held, plus a Retreat Day for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The enrolment package for the Sacrament of Confirmation is now available at the Parish Office or on-line...see below
